I am aware of and can understand a religious argument against same sex marriage. But the fact of the matter is that we live in the United States of America. And in America we have a principle called “Separation of Church and State” in place.
What that means is this: No matter how against a particular religious viewpoint a matter is, if it infringes on the CIVIL LIBERTIES of a person or group, then it is wrong and unconstitutional.
Marriage, while honorable in the eyesight of God, is a civil[legal] institution. It is sanctioned by the State(country).
